Desperate Need

A Leader’s Perspective – Desperate Need

I started to think about the term “desperate need” from a spiritual perspective and wondered why I fall short. Why is it that I am not driven to the cross of Calvary like my forefathers of the 17th century? Why don’t I have a compassion and a zeal for the spiritual state of others like I should? As a society have we become so complacent with the things of the Lord and so self-absorbed that we feel nothing? We have our health. We have our safety. We have our food. We have our prosperity. We worship freely without fear of persecution. For all of these things we should be grateful. Are we grateful? What is it going to take in the 21st century to drive Christians to their knees in desperate need of the Lord? What are the circumstances of life that will either wake us up individually or as a nation?

Like the second and third generation Puritans, it appears that we have become hypnotized with the prosperity of this world. We have it all, why do we need the Lord?

Are we so self-sufficient that we crowd out the things of the Lord?

Jeremiah 48:7 For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.
