A Workplace Collision

As the world moves further and further away from the godly values that made our culture strong, Christians in the workplace should endeavor to dig in their heels and make a difference. Today, Bible believing Christians are being forced out of leadership positions because of our religious beliefs. The algebraic math on this issue isn’t very complicated. Let’s assume for a moment that that Christian beliefs and values are represented as an “X” value. Christianity = X. Let’s also assume that the beliefs and values being espoused by the Secular Humanists are represented as a “Y” value. Secular Humanism = Y. Across this great country, corporations are forcing Christians to support “Y” value standards of immorality and unethical behavior that directly contradict what we hold close to our heart through Bible doctrine . The human resource departments we have in America have made an “art” of moving people around in the organizations to avoid religious discrimination lawsuits. Talented Christian men and women are being pigeonholed into positions of lesser impact because they are unwilling to support the ugly and perverse Secular Humanist agenda. It happens every day and it is getting worse.

Christianity = X

  • We have a holy and righteous Creator God who rules the universe.
  • God so loved the world that He sent His only Son to die on the cross for the sins of mankind.
  • Christianity has a “big tent” and has room for all who come to Christ as Savior.
  • Marriage is between a man and a woman.
  • Homosexuality is sin.
  • God made human beings both male and female.
  • Gender confusion and alteration is sin.
  • Absolute truth stems from the Word of God.
  • We have an Adamic sin nature.
  • The Bible is the source of all truth.

Secular Humanism = Y

  • The greatness of mankind and his thinking will rule the universe.
  • Man is innately good and over time humans can become better all on their own.
  • Secular Humanism is open to all who share their values and beliefs that God doesn’t exist.
  • Marriage is whatever man says that it is.
  • Homosexuality is a preference that displays one’s uniqueness and authenticity.
  • God made people and their choice of gender identity is what they believe themselves to be.
  • Gender identity is a choice and a value or standard that should be embraced by all.
  • Absolute truth is relative.
  • Man is born good to the core.
  • Man lives out and experiences truth as he is further enlightened.

Can you see the collision course that has been going on for decades in the workplace? Many corporations have made sensitivity training mandatory for all of their employees. If one is in a position of leadership then one is expected to be in lock-step with the Secular Humanist values. If an employee (leader) doesn’t conform, one of two things will happen. First, they will be moved into positions where they have no one reporting to them. They will give you some kind of special assignment or special project within the organization and tell you that it will benefit your career in the long-run. However, in most cases after the assignment ends employees flounder around and never find another team to lead. This tactic is a very subtle way to move those employees out of the way that don’t share the organization’s Secular Humanist values and beliefs. Second, they will either let you go or revalue the position (same job with less pay) to the point where one can’t afford to stay.

The exciting aspect of our dilemma is that Christians do have a choice. They can either roll-over or justify their support of the ungodly standards as being part of the job or they can stand up for what they believe in and refuse to administer the enemy’s agenda. Bottom-line, if one jumps on board and participates with the sensitivity training, then one is helping to define a worldview that is not their own. I believe that bold men and women in the workplace can bring a new sense of commitment and vigor to the fight for Christian freedom and liberty. We can reinsert ourselves back into the fight by living out our faith and not giving in. It is a call to spiritual arms for all Christians who operate in the vocational realm! “There is no neutral ground in the universe: every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counter-claimed by Satan (CS Lewis).” Dig in and fight for what you believe in. Praise God!
